A love letter to African hair, made in Africa to honour our natural beauty and culture.

The BGM Story

Hi Darling,

I’m Catherine, and I started BGM Naturals after too many wash days that left my coils thirsty, tangled, frizzy and stressed out. I’d watched friends and family lean on heat and relaxers just to get through the week, only to see their edges thin and their confidence dip. At that moment, I said, “I’m making this for us,” determined to give our hair the care it truly deserves.

Every day I battled mid-week dryness that felt like sandpaper, stubborn knots that shredded my comb, and styles that never seemed to grow. Then I mixed a simple, water-based formula in my kitchen, no harsh shortcuts, just deep moisture and gentle slip. The first time my curls slid through my fingers soft and bouncy and I saw new growth at my roots, I knew I’d cracked the code.

Building BGM in Africa means we understand our hair’s unique needs. Type-4 coils thrive on hydration and clean ingredients, nothing more, nothing less. I crafted every blend to feed thirsty strands, tame tangles, and celebrate the strength and beauty already in our textures.

Today, when you reach for Dewfine Moisture or Curl Envy, you’re tapping into a sisterhood that knows exactly what it’s like to wear these coils with pride. This is my love letter to Black people’s hair and to the confidence we carry when we go natural. Welcome to BGM Naturals. Your best hair days start here, join the movement.

A love letter in a name

Black Girl Magic (BGM) speaks to the beauty already in African hair. The magic isn’t in a bottle , it’s in coils, kinks, and curls worn as they are, cared for gently, and honoured with natural ingredients that support healthy hair.

We build for African women first. That focus keeps us honest and intentional. If you see yourself in that care, wherever you live and whatever you call your texture, you’re welcome in this circle.

The BGM Philosophy

Three rules we live by

Beauty with intention

We are more than just hair care. We believe in beauty that builds up our community, too.

Through our non-profit, the Black Woman’s Dreams Foundation (BWDF), 1% of all BGM Naturals revenue goes directly toward business and entrepreneurship training for youth—especially young women—in vulnerable communities.

Every time you restock your BGM hair essentials, you’re helping equip a young person with the tools they need to build their own business and change their life.

“My goal is to reduce reliance on harsh products and help women wear their natural beauty with confidence.”

Catherine loved African hair but kept running into “make it manageable” routines that leaned on heat and relaxers and left her hair worse for it. She started BGM to strip things back: kinder habits, real moisture, and the confidence to wear your texture as it is.

Meet Catherine

Confidence looks like this

Edges laid or brushed out, braids fresh or taken down, twist-out or slick bun,  it’s all valid. Confidence is choosing how you wear your hair and caring for it well.
